“Culture Counts in the Middle Grades”
Join middle level educators from across the state to visit Jenkins Middle School, an exemplar middle school that has been designated a Colorado and National School to Watch in 2011, 2014, and 2017! Jenkins is located in beautiful Colorado Springs and is part of Colorado Springs School District 11.

Friday, January 26
9 AM – 2 PM
Participants will learn specific, replicable practices that can be implemented in other middle school settings. All site visits include a school tour, time to connect with teachers and students, and an onsite lunch.
Session Objectives
- Become familiar with the National Forum’s “School to Watch” Critieria of Success
- Identify the key attributes and cultural components of excellence at Jenkins Middle School
- Gain insights from Jenkins’ implementation of “Capturing Kids’ Hearts” in action
- Understand Jenkin’s philosophy of building meaningful relationships with students
- Learn what it means to facilitate “Instruction with a Purpose”
- Be able to describe the Jenkins Effective Data-Driven PLCs process
